Global Forest and other Wildfires Status Reports.

Global Fire Monitoring Center
Following the recommendations of the UN-ECE/FAO/ILO Seminar Forest, Fire and Global Change (Russia 1996) and a number of international conferences the UN- ECE/FAO Team of Specialists on Forest Fire proposed the establishment of an institution which at that time was preliminarily designated as a Global Fire Management Facility. On the basis of these recommendations the Government of Germany through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Assistance, in June 1998 provided initial funding for the establishment of such an entity which was designated Global Fire Monitoring Center (GFMC)

EFFIS - European Forest Fire Information System
The European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS) supports the services in charge of the protection of forests against fires in the EU countries and provides the European Commission services and the European Parliament with updated and reliable information on wildland fires in Europe.

FIRMS - The Fire Information for Resource Management System
The Fire Information for Resource Management System (FIRMS) integrates remote sensing and GIS technologies to deliver global MODIS hotspot/fire locations to natural resource managers and other stakeholders around the World.
FIRMS is funded by NASA and builds on Web Fire Mapper, a web mapping interface that displays hotspots/fires provided by the MODIS Rapid Response System and delivers near real-time hotspot/fire information to international users and support fire managers around the World.
