   The outcome of the project shall result in extra functionalities to the already fully operational Rede de Informação de Situações de Emergência (RISE) system in order to provide the Portuguese Civil Protection authorities (SNPC) with data, information and tools to support disaster management operations in Portugal in near-real time, focusing in forest fire monitoring and management applications.

The additional functions consist in: 1. Making RISE available with wireless terminals in the field of operations; 2. Generating and integrating fire risk maps products.
The execution of the project will require a blend of expertise in communication technology, geographic information systems and earth observation techniques.
